This shawl begins with the modern method of Shetland Hap construction, working from the center out. The plain triangular section is worked from the bottom up first, beginning with 1 stitch. Stitches are increased by working a yarn over at the beginning of every row. Stitches are then picked up from the yarn over loops on the edges of the center triangle, and the remainder of the shawl is worked using a half circle construction in a mosaic pattern stitch with interspersed increase rows.

Mirry Dancers is a term for the Northern Lights in Shetland.

US 8 / 5mm 32, 40 and 60” / 80, 100 and 150cm circular needles (longer circulars will be needed as shawl gets larger)
