Shetland Shades: Stories In Wool

Sale price$45.00
(5.0)

Pease note that this book has a swiss binding which allows the book to lie flat when open. It means that the binding looks exposed and is not attached to the front cover. This is not a defect.

Shetland Shades: Stories in Wool is a homage to Gudrun Johnston’s Shetland roots and the rich knitting traditions of these breathtaking islands. The collection includes 12 knitting patterns, focusing on richly-hued vests, complemented by a few beautiful hats and scarves.

Inspired by the rugged beauty of Shetland, the book explores ways of knitting with color — mixing together the different shades of nature. It features vests with versatile and engaging constructions that make beautiful layering pieces for any outfit.

In the personal essays, Gudrun digs deeper into her creative process and Shetland knitting heritage, while also sharing her newfound interest in sewing. Shetland Shades invites you to be inspired by wind-swept shores, earthy tones, and centuries of crafting.

Shetland Shades is such a beautiful collection of patterns. Gudrun’s design work and use of colors evokes the iconic Shetland landscape. Accompanied by stunning photographs of the models wearing the sweaters throughout Shetland make for a keepsake book.

I love this book, the patterns are so well
Written. The photos are stunning and the added bonus is the lay flat spine. It’s such a brilliant feature and I wish more books were like that. I am just ordering my yarn for one of the vests and I can’t wait to cast on! Thank you!

This is such a lovely book! Not only are the patterns wonderful, but the writing and photography sweep the reader off to Shetland. The essay on color palettes is a true bonus. It is something that I am sure to return to as I develop my own colorwork. Kudos!

This book is full of all the things that make us love Gudrun and her projects: beautiful colors, interesting stories, and oh so much woolly wool! The Swiss style flat binding is an extra feature that makes the book much more user-friendly. So glad to have added this to my library!

Content is wonderful. Beautiful patterns and photos. Only giving 4 stars because the book binding quality is poor and broke away from the pages as soon as I opened it.

Beautiful photography! Presents a good variety of vest styles that are unique in design and skill level. I look forward to casting on a couple of the stash-busting designs soon. I especially love the book binding design which allows the book to open flat which makes it so much easier to use!

I love Gudrun's knitting style and color choices, this book doesn't disappoint. Since my husband and I visited Shetland this past year and I bought yarn from there, I can't wait to knit my souvenir project. Gorgeous book.

I am in love with this book. The smell, the binding, the knitting patterns and stunning scenary create a special experience. It surpassed my expectations, truly! Little touches like adding where sewing patterns can be found for items worn with the knitted pattern just made me so happy. Thank you for a high quality book that is a total experience!

A stunning book that encompasses the spirit of Shetland in colour and narrative. And the patterns are such that I am inspired to knit each one! Also, the binding demonstrates an additional level of detail. Well done, Team Gudrun!!
